From Freelance Moms to a Certified Women-Owned Agency: Smarty Social Earns WBENC Certification

After a complex and detailed two-year process, we’re proud to share that Smarty Social Media is now officially certified as a Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE) by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC)—the leading certifier of women-owned businesses in the U.S.
This certification confirms that Smarty is at least 51% women-owned, operated, and controlled (we are in fact 100%), and it opens the door to new opportunities with organizations that are committed to working with women-led companies.
For us, this isn’t just another milestone. It’s the next step in a journey that began with a mom, a mission, and a belief that work should feel like purpose.
A Story Rooted in Purpose and Possibility
When Jami founded Smarty Social in 2013, she was a new working mom searching for a better way to build an agency for working moms. After years in fast-paced agency life, she felt the pull to create something more human—an agency that valued flexibility, community, and meaning.
What started as a solo venture quickly grew into a collective of talented freelance moms who shared the same drive and creativity. They built something together through late nights, bold ideas, and a whole lot of grit. That spirit has shaped Smarty ever since.
Today, 93% of our team are women, many of them mothers who bring that same mix of passion, skill, and resilience to everything they do. We’ve grown from a small freelance network to a full-service social-first agency serving national and global brands—but the heart of who we are hasn’t changed.
